Špela
Sterle, owner of Indigo Studio, is a professional
dancer/choreographer who has been teaching Pilates since 2001.
Špela is originally from Slovenia, where she graduated
from the National Ballet School in 1995 and subsequently joined
Slovenian National Ballet. Her interest in modern dance brought
her to NYC in 1997 to study at The Merce Cunningham Studio-when
she also took her first Pilates class to help her improve
the alignment, flexibility, and strength needed to keep her
body balanced. She received her first teacher training through
Fran Lehen at Groundfloor Exercise in Manhattan, where she
taught for three years. She deepened her knowledge in anatomy,
biomechanics and manual touch at Kane School of Core Integration,
where she received her certification. Špela also studied
yoga with Leslie Journet and Klein Technique. She teaches
Pilates to both adults and children, sharing and teaching
her years of experience with movement with a supportive, safe,
and personal approach to each individual. Currently, Špela
dances and choreographs with her dance troupe Špela
Sterle Dance.
Carley Petesch, a professional dancer/choreographer, has been teaching
Pilates in Manhattan, Brooklyn and Westchester County since 2002.
Carley, originally from Chicago, came to New York after receiving a
B.S. in Psychology and minors in Dance and French from Duke
University. Carley was introduced to Pilates while studying dance. She
is thrilled to bring her honed sense of body awareness, love for
movement, anatomy and biomechanics to her work with individuals,
helping them personalize and enhance their Pilates experience. Carley
received her Pilates certification from the Kane School for Core
Integration and has continued studies with physical therapist, Debra
Goodman, MSPT, expanding her knowledge in pre- and post-natal Pilates.
She also works as a journalist, writing about various subjects
including movement and health. Carley was happy to join Indigo in October 2006.
Matthew Rogers first discovered Pilates in 1999. He instantly loved its
grounding force within the body. He graduated with a BFA in Dance and Choreography
from Virginia Commonwealth University and dances presently for Tere O'Connor Dance.
He was certified in Pilates from the Kane School of Core Integration in 2006.
Matthew has a deep understanding of the body from extensive anatomy training and the
study of many other movement systems (yoga, the Klein technique, etc). He has incorporated
these studies within the Pilates work to tailor his classes and private sessions to the
individual and their needs. He shares his knowledge with sensitivity and enthusiasm at
Indigo and offers clients not only a great movement experience but also an opportunity to
discover their body's potential for awareness, strength, and flexibility. Matthew is proud
to teach at Indigo for the healthy change it encourages in its community.
Laura Bradley is a professional dancer. Growing up in Alabama, she studied
gymnastics and diving, and was a competitive soccer player and swimmer. She began studying
Pilates as a ballet student in 1998. After receiving a full scholarship to the Alabama
Governor's School for the Arts and Technology's Dance Department, she was introduced to modern
dance. She continued her Pilates training while receiving a B.F.A. in modern dance at the University
of Utah. After graduating, she moved to NYC and completed her Pilates Teacher Training Program through
Body Arts and Sciences International. She was certified and greatly influenced by director, Rael Isacowitz.
She furthered her Pilates education through a Prenatal and Postpartum Pilates Certification by the Center for
Women's Fitness under founder, Carolyne Anthony. In addition to practicing Pilates and dancing, she has been
studying yoga in New York for 3 years. She has always loved moving and is thrilled to get to share that
enthusiasm with others.
